Why Do I Keep Saying "Yes"?
Healing the Inner Child Who Felt Unwanted
Does being a "good" son, daughter, husband, or wife truly bring the recognition you crave? In traditional Asian and many immigrant families, we are conditioned to link "obedience" with "family honor." To maintain a facade of peace, we learn to shrink ourselves, constantly saying, "I’m fine," or "It doesn’t matter."
But have you ever wondered what lies behind that "it’s fine"? It is often a soul deeply terrified of conflict and desperately longing to be seen.
When "Rejection" Becomes Poison for the Soul
I once worked with a client who had been in a deep depression for a long time. Her mother was extremely harsh, constantly nitpicking and eventually telling her: "I feel like you have no strengths at all. You are completely useless." At the time, she was just a teenager, and those words made her want to end her life.
This wasn't just a fleeting emotion; it was the "wilting of a soul." When the person closest to you—your very origin—denies your value, living itself becomes a burden of guilt.
A Cry of Despair in the Breath: The Unwanted Arrival
During a deep "Rebirth Breathwork" session, this client regressed to the womb. What she felt wasn't warmth or love, but a chilling indifference and rejection. In that moment, she realized: My mother never wanted me.
The grief and resentment of decades transformed into a heart-wrenching roar: "If you didn't want me, you should have aborted me! You could have killed me! Why did you bring me into this world if you didn't love me?"
The Daughter Imprisoned by Family Honor
Another client grew up under a heavy energetic cloud: her mother’s silence, her father’s authority, and the high walls of "family reputation." She had to be the perfect student and achieve the best results to maintain the family’s "face" within their immigrant community.
She became accustomed to putting everyone else's needs before her own. Even when she had the chance to speak up for herself or share her heart, her body would automatically enter a "Freeze" state. Every time she wanted to speak, her throat felt locked, and she could only comfort herself by saying, "I'll try again next time when I'm ready."
Deep Analysis: Trauma from a Lack of Support
When a child grows up without a stable support system—or in an environment filled with rejection and heavy expectations—several deep traumas form:
-
Existential Anxiety & Survival Freeze: The child learns to read people’s faces because any "non-compliant" act could trigger a storm. As adults, they "freeze" during conflict, losing their ability to stand up for themselves.
-
Fragmented Identity: The child internalizes the parent's rejection ("I'm not good enough") or expectations ("I must be perfect"). They cease to be individuals and become "showpieces" for the family.
-
Endless Compensation: Daughters often subconsciously carry their mother’s burdens, feeling, "I don't deserve a life happier than my mother's."
From Survival to Rebirth: You Deserve to Live for Yourself
This trauma is not your fault, but healing is a choice you can make for yourself. Through Rebirth Breathwork, energy healing, and dialogue with your inner child, we can return to the origin of that wound. We can embrace the child shivering in the dark, suffocating under expectations, and tell them: "You don't need to be perfect. You don't need to carry your parents' regrets. Your existence itself is a precious gift."
